Sling Fling Q&A

Here are some frequently asked questions and their answers. If you don't see the answer to your question here, please send me an email. Thanks.

FAQ'S

Q. How do you keep your prices so low?

A.Be sure that I don't sacrifice quality for price. My goal is to provide great slings at affordable prices for parents. Many families, like mine, are attempting to live on one main income so that a parent can be home with the little ones. Those families can't afford a $50 or $100 sling.

I buy my materials in bulk make use of sales and coupons and pass the savings on to you. I make the best use of my fabric to minimize waste. Since time is money I have developed a system to work quickly. I also ship First Class which is less expensive and my website cost is low.  I won't get rich selling slings but I do love what I do.

Q. What is the weight limit on Sling Fling slings?

A. Birth to 35 pounds.

Q. I am petite and my husband is quite tall. Do we need two different sling sizes?

A. Probably not. Sling Fling slings are adjustable and fit a wide range of height and weights. See our Sling Sizing Chart to be sure. Get your sling sized to fit the main wearer, usually mom, and dads will usually just have a shorter tail. Most men prefer that fit anyway.

Q. How do I know if I am wearing my sling properly?

A. The Using Your Sling tutorial should be a big help, but the best indication is your own comfort. If you and your baby feel good, then you've got it.

Q. Is a ring sling hard to use?

A. Most people take to using a sling fairly quickly. There is a slight learning curve with babywearing. Just follow my instructions and you should be fine.

Q. Do you make lined or double sided slings?

A. I only make one layered slings. I have found that with ring slings, simpler is better. Lined slings, because of consisting of 2 layers of fabric, can tend to be bulky and can be cumbersome when adjusting. In addition when you consider that the sling is another layer that you and your baby are wearing, you want to go as light as possible. Babies can overheat quickly, especially when bundled next to your warm body.

If you are looking for the fun color variation that a lined sling can give, try adding an accent to your sling tail. I have many accent fabrics to choose from. Just about all of my slings have no "wrong side" of the fabric so your sling will look great no matter how it hangs down.

Q. Why does my neck sometimes hurt when I wear my sling?

A. It shouldn’t. The pleated shoulder is designed to cup your shoulder; if you wear your sling across your neck it will not be as comfortable.  See the Using Your Sling guide for pictures and instructions.

Q. Why does my back sometimes ache when I wear my baby?

A. You may be wearing your sling too loose, which changes your center of gravity. To make your sling more comfortable, make sure your rings sit at the hollow under your shoulder (where a corsage would sit) and your baby is snug and high up on your torso, above your belly button. Also, remember that good posture is important when babywearing.

Q. My baby started to cry when I put him in the sling for the first time. What's wrong?

A. Nothing. Some babies don't like to try new things. Your baby may just need an adjustment period. Try moving around the next time you try your sling, as babies are comforted by motion. Make sure your baby is fed and well rested before introducing him to the sling. With time he should grow to love being worn in your sling.
